Nutritional Support

“Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.”   – Hippocrates

Nutrition includes dietary modification and supplementation to optimize your health.  Vitamins, minerals and other nutritional factors have to be present, in the right balance, for the body’s biochemical pathways to function effectively. Dr. Lee will help you identify nutritional and dietary factors that may be contributing to your physical and emotional complaints. If necessary, Dr. Lee will prescribe high-quality nutraceuticals to restore nutrient deficiencies. He will also help to educate his patients about the quality, preparation and proper digestion of food.

Optimize Digestion

We have all heard the old adage, “you are what you eat,” and to some degree this true; however, this phrase does not take into account the importance of digestion. Perhaps a more accurate statement would be, “you are what you can digest.” Due to stress, improper diet and environmental toxicity the body’s capacity to digest food can be greatly diminished, which can result in nutrient deficiencies that over time can lead to many health problems. By re-establishing proper digestive function in your gastrointestinal tract and rebalancing your digestive enzymes you can get the most out of the foods you eat.

Remove Toxicity

We live in a fast paced lifestyle where food preparation and the quality of our food choices are sometimes not ideal. The widespread use of food additives, chemicals, sugars and unhealthy fats in our diets contribute to many of the degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, obesity and even modern chronic ailments such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.  Naturopathic doctors are trained to properly detoxify the body through a variety of methods, which involve dietary modification, nutritional supplementation and drainage techniques to help you rid your body of toxins and promote optimal functioning.

Counteract Nutrient Deficiencies

Each individual has unique nutritional and biochemical needs. Many illnesses are a result of the body’s need for a specific nutrient or group of nutrients that is deficient. Today more than ever, obtaining nutritional knowledge can make a difference in our lives.  Air, soil, and water pollution in addition to modern farming techniques, have depleted our soils of vital minerals and nutrients that used to be in our foods. This can impact health in the long term since we are not getting the proper nutrition we deserve from our food.

Food Allergies

Food allergies are exaggerated bodily immune responses triggered by certain foods such as eggs, peanuts and milk. These allergies can range from skin rashes and hives to swellings and anaphylaxis (a severe potentially fatal allergic reaction to the respiratory tract, skin, gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system). What many people don’t know is that you can be sensitive to foods without having obvious signs of an allergic reaction. These sensitivities can manifest in the form of headaches, eczema, dry skin, digestive upset, diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue. Foods sensitivities are not as severe as allergic reactions however, over time they do have an effect on overall health since they prevent absorption of nutrients. Through the use of dietary modification, cleansing and detoxification programs a problem or ailment that has been present for many years can be quickly eliminated.
