The liver is the great detoxifier of the body – what happens to this organ impacts all organ systems of the body.
Measuring Liver Detoxification
Liver detoxification is broken into 2 pathways – Phase I and Phase II. If the phase I and II detoxification pathways become overloaded, there will be a build up toxins which spill over into the rest of the body. Many of these toxins are fat soluble and incorporate themselves into fatty parts of the body where they may stay for years or for a lifetime. The brain and the endocrine (hormonal) glands are fatty organs, and are common sites for fat-soluble toxins to accumulate. This causes organ and tissue damages as the body moves towards dysfunction.
